THANK YOU DADS OF THE ANIMAL KINGDOM
Hope you all had a happy Father’s Day everyone! In honor of this past weekend being Father’s Day Weekend, we at Havasi Wilderness Foundation wanted to thank all fathers, step-fathers, god-fathers, grandfathers, and father-figures in our lives and in the lives of so many others. What do fathers do? Fathers and father-figures take time to invest in our lives and to teach us and prepare us for the world ahead of us. This is not just seen in the human race, many other animals have fathers that make a tremendous difference in the lives of their offspring.
Four Faithful Father’s of the Animal Kingdom:
Frogs and Toads are the bring home the bacon kind of incredible fathers. Many of these species have been known to carry their offspring in their mouth (as protection) they don’t eat them and in fact, sometimes THEY won’t even eat until their kids are big enough to survive on their own!
Wolves are incredible family men. Male wolves are the ultimate family man, providing and protecting their pack (or family unit). While often known to be a ferocious predator these fathers will protect their “wife and kids” after new pups are born and will bring back best portions of a kill to their family.
Lions while often caught taking naps and lazing around. . . are known to be very dedicated in their role as father. They provide for their family or “pack” which can be up to 20 lion cubs and lionesses. That’s a lot of mouths to feed! No wonder these dads need the occasional snooze.
Black Vulture, until death do you part? While vultures do enjoy eating dead things or carrion, these fathers are not deadbeat dads at all! They not only help out around the house but they mate for life. And not just that but they even spend quality time with the family when it’s not mating season.
All this to say thank you dads! Thank you for sticking it out, for sacrificing time, sleep, food and your sanity. There are a lot of awesome role models in our lives and in the animal kingdom and we hope you all have a Happy Father’s Day!
